Warm Beer and Terrible Food: Socially Selling Negativity
My cohort @shawnvincent recently made a great point about this graphic:
"OWNING negative comments. I've always thought a couple negative comments give credence to the good comments. And so often the negative comments are clearly authored by someone who is CRAZY."
What Horror Movies Can Teach Us About Marketing
Don't go at it alone
Integrated marketing requires more than one channel. That's where the "integration" comes from – duh. Look at your advertising campaigns like a theatrical performance; everyone plays a part to tell a much larger story.
Social Media - Generation II: The Social Business Archetype
Something immediately pops into your mind when you hear the term “social media.
But your definition might differ from that of your boss, or your neighbor, or Seth Godin. The fact is that social media is far more nuanced than most people realize. This topic is near and dear to my heart, and I’ve been preaching about it for the last year – "social business."
When It's Best To Socially Expand Your Brand
From time to time I look at a client’s audience and realize it is far too broad for just one social channel. This often happens with travel, destinations, trending products and seasonal variances that can attract a broad demographic.
Old-School Selling Addiction Meets No-Sell Social
I just completed a great run of presentations over the past couple weeks. Each successive audience offered up a new challenge or dilemma I didn’t anticipate. I actully LOVE this! As a recovering co-dependent hell-bent on saving the world, I had to resist the urge to rewrite the deck after every event and subsequent comment.
Dino Dogan, Triberr & The Future Of The Free World
So Dino, tell me what is "Triberr"?
Triberr is a weapon that helps small bloggers effectively compete for attention against large media properties, like Mashable, Huffington Post, NYTimes, etc.
It's interesting that you should describe it as a weapon seeing as that's how I've seen it since day one. Berrie Pelsner was kind enough to invite me into the beta fold and I've been a hardcore advocate ever since.
How NOT To Use Your Pinterest Account
Having started all willy-nilly with Pinterest like Joe-Joe the idiot circus boy, I put absolutely no thought into what I was doing while kicking the tires. Now that PT is hotter than Canadian Maple syrup at a swingers party I can tell you what I did wrong.
You Want Real Social Business? Done.
I get a lot of questions frequently that seem to pile up. In the "social" aspects of what I do professionally it seems that there are no concrete answers. Everyone answer is vague and tirelessly noncommittal. Instead of trying to chip away at each one, I took a big stab at aggregating as many as I could think of and putting a bow on em'. I know the deck seems needlessly massive but I think there's some great takeaways in there no matter what level you're at.
What the Bar Scene Can Teach Us About Social Media
A couple years ago I tried to explain why a client needed to understand that each social channel has its own communication style. All the client wanted to do was shoot out a message that said, "Go back to our website and buy shit!" Because, of course, social media would then become a river of gold.
How To Lie, Cheat & Steal Your Way To A Bigger Social Graph
No one in my industry is going to like what I’m about to share. I'm not a fan of “buying followers” or trading follows in social media. But if you want quantity and you don’t give a damn about quality, then consider this your guide.
In the interest of transparency, I’ll tell you straight up that social media (SEO, content, online media buyers) professionals want you to believe there's no way to you could possibly do what we do. But that's a lie. It might be more accurate to say there's no way you could possibly do what we do as WELL as we do it.
Around the World in 7 Minutes - Headhunting With Your Social Graph
So many people ask me, "Why does it seem like you know everyone?" Well, my friends, that's very much by design. It’s true that I love people and I love being social. But the new-world rolodex (my social graph) is becoming increasingly valuable to your employer and your clients.
Case in point: The other day I was speaking with a friend in a rapidly growing social media tool (look for an interview with him in an upcoming post). He asked, as many do, "Hey, do you know someone who does …" – in this case it was WordPress plug-in development.
Justice Mitchell's Final 2012 Predictions: Part Three
I know, I know, I know – I'm making your brain hurt. But not only is there a lot of stuff coming online in 2012, I also anticipate a big push into a lot of new technologies and behaviors. So without further ado, here's my final list of what to look for in the new year:
What Was "Most Contagious" About 2011?
Hi. My name is Justice, and I'm FOMO. This means I have a "fear of missing out."
This affliction causes me to be “cool hunting” at all times as I try to stay on top of what's breaking in creativity. Think of it like petting the cat in “Dune” to get the serum that will maintain my life. Stupid.
Dear Lord, did I really just type that?
Justice Mitchell's 2012 Predictions: Part One
The Future is Now! (I’m not saying it’s a great headline – but I needed to have something there or it makes me a little nuts ;)
Anyone who ever sat down over a cup of coffee or bottle of wine with me knows I can wax philosophical over design and technology trends until your ears bleed. I LIVE for this shit, people!
I’ve been grinding on a number of different items lately, and it’s time to put it all out there. I based some of these on my own gut feelings. I cited and referenced others, then supplemented with my own take on how "it" will affect us. What you read here is my own interpretation. I’m not engaging in product placement or service promotion, and my current employers influence none of this.
Pulling A Qwikster: Learn Now Or Be Doomed To Loose Our Trust
"Pulling a qwikster" – the act of a company returning to its previous way of doing something after making an ill-conceived decision and being slapped by innumerable denizens of the social media community. The decisions are usually an attempt to create more revenue without doing any real work. Even worse, these decisions sometimes kill beloved products or services that the company does not consider cost-effective.
Social Media Crisis Management
Take a look at a recent webinar I just did with Starmark. One of the many responsibilities that I have with our agency is that of (hopefully) a thought leader. Additionally we aggressively write what we call "eTIPS" every week and I highly recommend that you subscribe to them. While these tips are directed at digital marketing professionals, I think most business owners will get something from the intelligence. We give a ton a great content away. That being said, enjoy the presentation:
